Muksis Project

Project description

The Muksis Project implemented several features for the open source media player MPlayer (version 1.0-rc1) to improve its usefulness as personal video recorder / home theater component with Finnish television broadcasts. These were:

• Black frame detection (for detecting commercial breaks)
• Support for the DVB subtitling format used by YLE channels
• Accurate seeking in saved MPEG Transport Streams
• Audio filtering for a "quiet listening" scenario

Client

The project's client was Matthieu Weber, senior assistant in the Department of Mathematical Information Technology at the University of Jyväskylä, who had previously implemented some of the above features for an older version of MPlayer.

Supervisors

The team's supervisor was Ville Isomöttönen. No technical supervisor was assigned for the team due to difficulties in finding one experienced with the subject matter.
